Yiddish Tools is built so that your words stay yours. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and who else ever sees it.

Who we are

Yiddish Tools is operated by Hard on Soft Inc. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Hard on Soft Inc., and "the service" means the yiddish.tools website together with the Yiddish Tools desktop app.

You can reach us any time at hello@yiddish.tools.

The short version
  • The desktop app runs on your own computer. The audio you record and the text you write are processed locally and are never uploaded to us.
  • On the website we keep only what an account and a purchase need: your name, your email address, and a record of what you bought.
  • Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • We do not sell your data, we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes, and we do not run advertising or tracking networks on the site.
What we collect
  • Account details. Your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier instead of a password. If you use a passkey or two-factor authentication, we store the credential or secret needed to verify future sign-ins.
  • Purchases and licenses. Which models you bought, when, at what version, and which computer each license is currently activated on. Your Stripe customer identifier and the card brand and last four digits are stored so we can show your purchase history.
  • Content you send us on the website. If you use the online playground, the audio or text you submit is uploaded to our servers so it can be processed and the result returned to you. It stays attached to your account until you or we delete it, and it is not used for anything else. This does not apply to the desktop app, which never sends your content anywhere.
  • Dictionary contributions. Entries, corrections and votes you submit to the community dictionary are stored and shown publicly, attributed to your account.
  • Technical logs. Standard server logs such as IP address, browser type and request timestamps, kept for security, abuse prevention and debugging.
Why we use it

We use the information above to create and secure your account, to deliver and license the models you bought, to provide the features you asked for, to answer your support emails, and to meet our legal and tax obligations. We do not use your content to train models without your explicit, separate consent.

Who else sees it

Payments are processed by Stripe, Inc. When you buy a model you are sent to Stripe, which collects your payment details directly and handles the transaction under its own privacy policy. Stripe tells us that a payment succeeded and gives us a customer reference; your full card number never reaches our servers.

Apart from Stripe and the infrastructure providers that host the site and send our transactional email, we do not share your personal data with third parties. We do not sell it, rent it, or trade it. We may disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Cookies

We set only the cookies the site needs to function: a session cookie, a cookie protecting forms against cross-site request forgery, and a "remember me" cookie if you ask to stay signed in. There are no advertising or third-party analytics cookies.

How long we keep it

Account records, purchase records and anything you submitted through the online playground are kept for as long as your account exists. After your account is closed we keep only what tax and accounting law requires. Server logs are rotated regularly. You can ask us to delete your playground uploads at any time.

Your choices
  • You can view and change your name, email address and password at any time from your account settings.
  • You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
  • You can ask us to delete your account. Purchase records we are legally required to retain will be kept, but your profile and content will be removed.

Email hello@yiddish.tools and we will act on any of these within 30 days.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us information, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced by email to registered users before they take effect.
