Speak

A natural Yiddish voice reads any text out loud — with read-along highlighting, three speeds, a per-word nikud editor and audio export.

  1. 1
    Own Nikud, then Speak

The voice reads pointed text, so Speak needs the Nikud model installed alongside it — nikud is added for you automatically before anything is spoken. If Nikud is missing, the Speak screen says so and links to the store.

  2. 2
Type, and the reading prepares itself

Paste or type Yiddish text (up to about 20,000 characters per reading). A moment after you stop typing the app has already prepared the reading: numbers are spelled out as Yiddish words, common abbreviations are expanded, and the text is pointed. Press play.

English words inside the text are skipped and listed in a small “skipped” badge — the voice reads Yiddish only, for now.

  3. 3
Read along, jump around, pick a pace

Every word lights up as it is spoken. Click any word to jump the voice there. Three speeds — Slow, Normal, Fast — sit next to the player, and the waveform shows where you are.

  4. 4
Fix the nikud of any word

Not happy with how a word is pointed? Switch on Edit nikud and click the word. A popover shows each letter with a picker for vowels and dots, plus a raw text field for full control. Reset restores the model’s version; Apply & re-read speaks the sentence again with your fix. Edited words wear a small “edited” badge, and your edits survive re-readings.

You can share a correction to help improve the model — always your choice, see the Nikud guide.

  5. 5
    Save the audio

Save writes a .wav file, named after the first words of the reading. Use it for a voice note, a lesson, an accessible version of a letter — anything.

    Generated on this PC
The voice is a small model that runs on an ordinary office computer. Nothing you write is sent anywhere to be spoken.
